Invincible Star Launches Everest Campaign
Gai Waterhouse is looking forward to Invincible Star launching her Everest campaign in the Gr3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday. A two-time Gr3 winner and runner-up to Merchant Navy in last year's Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, Invincible Star (I am Invincible-Romany Flyer, by Catbird) will represent Greg and Barbara Ingham's GPI Racing in the $13 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 13 October. The lightly raced 4YO showed she had returned from a break in tremendous order winning a barrier trial by 9.8 lengths at Randwick on 13 August. Among Invincible Star's opponents in the Concorde will be defending Everest champion Redzel. "It's almost a mini-Everest, isn't it,'' Waterhouse told racingnsw.com.au. "I think she is shaping up super. I can't see why she won't be the horse to beat in the race. She's pretty well ready to go. I think it's a wonderful thing to think a mare that is so lightly raced has been able to get in,'' she said. Waterhouse added: "For the slot holder to be so admiring of her to want to have her in the slot speaks to her credentials because she's by far the most lightly raced of all the horses in the Everest. But she's such a lovely mare, so honest and has such amazing cruising speed.''
