Jameka Race Return No Certainty
Following a sub-par trial this morning at Cranbourne, the imminent return to racing of 2016 Gr1 Caulfield Cup winner Jameka now appears clouded. The superstar mare only beat one home in Trial 2 despite being asked for a greater effort for much of the run in. Post her trial trainer Ciaron Maher commented, “I know the horse really well and she’s a little bit off where she needs to be. If she goes back to the races, she goes back to group 1 level and she needs to be competitive at that level otherwise there is no point running her, so she needs to improve a little." The triple Gr1 winner was sold at May's Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $2.6 million. According to justhorseracing.com, connections are now anticipated to let the dust settle and make a decision over the next fortnight as to whether Jameka continues her build up to the Spring Carnival or is retired to stud.
