Couvre Lit Puts Them To Sleep On Debut
On the theme of well-named first starters, Godolphin first-starter Couvre Lit kicked-off her career in commanding fashion when running away with the opener at Warwick Farm yesterday. The filly's grand-dam is impeccably bred Danehill mare Quilt, giving rise assumedly to Couvre Lit's French name, translating to "bed-cover" in English. The filly is by Boban's sire in Bernardini from Lonhro mare Counterpane, a winner of two and sister to dual Gr2 Warwick Stakes winner Pinwheel. This is also the family of athletic stakes-winner Meidung (also by Bernardini), herself dam of Gr2 Moonee Valley Fillies' Classic winner Banish (by Lonhro). The family also includes Champion HK Sprinter Charming City.
