At Caulfield in Melbourne, Coolmore's former Gr1-winning Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Holy Snow (Fastnet Rock-Only Words, by End Sweep) stormed home for an eye-catching last-to-first win in the $200,000 Gr2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) for 3YOs, defeating Mr So And So & Astoria. This was a brilliant return by Holy Snow who firmed into $11 with TAB for the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 3 March. Trainer Mick Price said he was taking an unorthodox approach to Holy Snow's Australian Guineas preparation by running him second-up in the $750,000 stallion-making feature. "Last preparation was pretty messy...He was a colt that used to fight and not do the right thing and it wears your horse out," Price told racing.com. "But he's over his delinquent ways and he's a much better horse physically and onwards and upwards into the Australian Guineas." Price added: "I've done the work with him to go straight into the Guineas second-up over the mile at Flemington." From the multiple Group-winning and Gr1-placed filly Only Words, Holy Snow was a $260,000 purchase by Yu Long Investments at the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. His record now reads 2 wins and 2 placings (including the Gr2 MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes) from 6 starts for $156,135 in earnings.
