Winx Has Black Caviar In Her Sights

Tuesday, 24th January 2017

Winx is expected to challenge the international benchmark set by fellow champion mare Black Caviar when the final World's Best Racehorse Rankings are released in London on Tuesday night. The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) have once again selected the iconic Claridges Hotel as the venue for the 2016 Longines World's Best Racehorse and Longines World's Best Horse Race awards ceremony. Racing Victoria's Executive General Manager of Racing, Greg Carpenter, who sits on the international ratings panel, believes that Winx's current rating of 130 is certain to increase and may even surpass Black Caviar's previous best. "Going into the final conference in Hong Kong in December she [Winx] was rated 130 but there's going to be some good news around Winx," Carpenter told Racing.com. "She's going to be higher than 130 and then that will make it interesting putting her in context with Black Caviar's best performances of all time which was the 2011 Newmarket Handicap where she posted a rating of 132." US star Arrogate (134) shot to the top of the World's Best Racehorse Rankings in November, ahead of California Chrome (133) and Winx (130).
