Ecuador Wins Listed Carrington Stakes
At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Coolmore's deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) added a black-type success when 7YO New Zealand-bred gelding Ecuador (High Chaparral-Bak da Princess, by Danske) scored by 1.3 lengths for trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the $150,000 Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, over 7YO gelding Shiraz (Zariz-Moville Slipper, by Moville Dancer) & 4YO gelding Gold Symphony (Reward for Effort-Tzaress, by Stravinsky). Co-trainer Adrian Bott told Sky Racing that Ecuador would be kept in work to chase further black-type success during the autumn. "There are a couple of nice races for him going forward," Bott said. "Sydney and Melbourne are both options for him over the carnival." Ecuador, who is a full-brother to Gr1 Easter Handicap winner & Gr1 Auckland Cup placegetter Pondarosa Miss, improved his record to 10 wins (including the Listed McKell Cup & Listed Lord Mayors Cup) and 8 placings (including the Gr1 ATC Epsom Handicap) from 30 starts for $834,850 earnings. Ecuador was a NZ$360,000 purchase at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Esker Lodge.
