Spendthrift Colt Still Unbeaten

Thursday, 19th January 2017

Well related colt Into Orbit maintained his perfect record when winning at Sandown yesterday. Trained by Team Hawkes for Spendthrift Australia, Into Orbit extended his unbeaten record to 2 wins from as many starts when scoring a narrow but decisive 0.3 length victory in a benchmark 64 handicap over 1000 metres. The 3YO had marked himself as a horse to watch when bounding clear for a dominant 4.5 length debut win at Pakenham back in August. Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said he expects Into Orbit to eventually develop into a stakes class horse. "It's not often that they miss the start and still win so I think it was his class that got him through there," Hawkes told Racing.com. "We just wanted to see how he went today and then we'll work out where we go from here. 1000 metres isn't his go either so we're happy." By ill-fated sire Northern Meteor, Into Orbit is out of the unraced mare Rockin Babe (Rock Of Gibraltar), a daughter of three-time Gr1 winner and grand producer Ballroom Babe. This is the family of Gr3 winner Tahni Girl - dam of Gr3 winning Perth sprinter Maschino - Gr3 winning Hong Kong sprinter Hidden Dragon, and Gr2 Furious Stakes winner Just Dancing. Spendthrift purchased Into Orbit for $350,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Luskin Park.
