Imposing Lass Wins Gr3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes

Monday, 16th January 2017

At Gosford racecourse on the NSW Central Coast, Westbury Stud's three-time Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Makfi (Dubawi-Dhelaal, by Green Desert) added a Group success when 4YO filly Imposing Lass (Makfi-Imposingly, by Zabeel) scored by 1 length for trainer Bjorn Baker in the $150,000 Gr3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, over fellow 4YO mare Queen Of Wands (Not a Single Doubt-She's Warrego, by Giant's Causeway) & fellow 4YO mare and stable-mate Sewreel (Savabeel-Haberdashery, by Pins). A NZ$120,000 purchase by Paul Willets at the 2014 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Westbury Stud, Imposing Lass improved her record to 5 wins (including the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet) and 3 placings (including the Gr2 The Roses) from 10 starts for $292,525 earnings. The well-bred Imposing Lass is a half-sister to Gr3 winners Full Of Spirit (Flying Spur) and Lady Cumquat (Duke Of Marmalade) from the Zabeel mare Imposingly, a three-quarter sister to New Zealand Derby winner St Reims and Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes winner and Melbourne Cup runner-up Champagne (both by Zabeel).
