Sofia Rosa In Top Order

Thursday, 12th January 2017

Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa (Makfi-Bislieri, by Encosta de Lago) is delighting her connections as she continues her build-up to the autumn, reports theinformant.co.nz. Crowned New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year last season, the Lib Petagna-owned mare failed to come up as a 4YO in the spring finishing unplaced in the Gr1 Memsie Stakes, Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes and Gr1 Turnbull Stakes in Melbourne. However, trainer Stephen Marsh says the daughter of Makfi has returned from a spell in much better order for the autumn. "She's coming to hand beautifully. She looks great and her condition is perfect. I can't fault her at all," Marsh said. "She looks like a completely different horse to what she was in the spring. She didn't really come up in this campaign, but I think it's fair to say that this time she seems to be back where we want her to be." He added: "Sydney in the autumn is the aim, and she'll resume in the NRM Sprint at Te Rapa on February 11." Marsh has previously confirmed Sofia Rosa's primary autumn target as the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on 8 April.
