No Thorndon Mile For Start Wondering

Wednesday, 11th January 2017

A shot at a top-flight Trentham double has been all but ruled out for smart sprinter Start Wondering, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Wanganui galloper will attempt to add the Gr1 Telegraph to his Gr1 Railway Stakes success, but a start in the Gr1 Thorndon Mile is highly unlikely. "I don't think he will be running in both," said J. J. Rayner, who prepares the 6YO at Wanganui with her father Evan. Start Wondering (Eighth Wonder-Roseanbar, by Akbar) is more likely to be aimed toward the Gr1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic at Otaki following his Trentham outing. Rayner said the gelding had picked up well since his defeat of Perfect Fit at Ellerslie on New Year's Day. "He was really tired when he got home, but we all were, and he has recovered well. He's doing fine," she said.
