Derby Winner Tops Magic Millions Perth Winter Sales
Western Australian Derby winner Respondent was the star act on a solid day's selling at the 2016 Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling and Thoroughbred Sales yesterday. A close up fourth a day earlier in the Group Three Strickland Stakes, Respondent sold to Perth based bloodstock agent Damien Wyer for $57,500. Offered by Peters Investments, Respondent is one of the city's most accomplished performers with four wins and 13 placings from 35 starts and earnings over $666,000. Wyer said Respondent will be spelled at Oakland Park for a month before being aimed at the Perth Summer Carnival. A trainer for the son of Haradasun is yet to be confirmed. Lots offered by Peters Investments filled the top five places on the best sellers list with Paris Dream ($44,000 to Damien Wyer Racing & Bloodstock), Major Detail ($36,000 to Lindsey Smith), Express Dancer ($36,000 to John Chalmers Bloodstock) and Truly Gold ($32,000 to Murray Wallace) proving popular. The Thoroughbred Sale grossed over $650,000 for 97 lots sold at an average price of $6,707. The clearance rate was over 85 per cent. Earlier in the day at the Perth Winter Yearling Sale 36 lots changed hands at an average price of $4,903 and clearance rate of 90 per cent. The two top sellers among the yearlings were both offered by Serpentine's Redwood Park with their Vital Equine-Contentious colt finishing on top at $18,000 selling to Vaughn Sigley. Lot 26, as the top yearling was catalogued, is a full brother to the stakes performed Vitalism - a winner of three races and earner of over $150,000.
