Malaguerra Right Horse For Stradbroke: Freedman

Thursday, 2nd June 2016

Hall Of Fame trainer Lee Freedman is adamant that Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) is the right type of horse to win to win Saturday week's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm. The last-start Gr1 BTC Cup winner continued his build-up to the $1.5 million winter showpiece with an easy 1000m trial win at the Gold Coast on Tuesday, and Freedman says its just a matter of keeping him ticking over until the big race. "He was sent out to have a solid trial and he ran very good time. He pulled up very well so its just a matter of planning out his work for the next ten days through to the Stradbroke," Freedman, who trains in partnership with his brother Anthony, told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "I'm confident that we have the right sort of horse for the race, but the track conditions and the barrier draw are going to be crucial." Freedman said the forecast rain that is expected to hit Brisbane over the next fortnight should pose few problems. "My horse is pretty adept in wet ground," he added. "He has trialled on the wet and has been impressive on it and most of the Magnus crop do get through the heavy ground very well."
