Owners Sweet On Mackintosh

Tuesday, 31st May 2016

Kiwi-bred 3YO Mackintosh (Pins-Lolly Scramble, by Generous) is proving himself to be an inspired purchase for a trio of New Zealand owners, reports NZ Racing Desk. The dual Gr3 winner of the Rough Habit Plate and the Grand Prix Stakes was bought by Lib Petagna and Tony Muollo senior and Tony Muollo junior after the Pins gelding had won twice for Byerley Park trainer and part-owner James Bridge. Now unbeaten in three runs for Chris Waller, Mackintosh is the current second favourite for the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m), although the Gr2 Queensland Guineas over the shorter journey of 1600m is firming as the preferred target. "I have discussed with the owners that this option is available to us, but we are yet to make a final decision as to where he will run and that will also be decided later in the week," Waller said. "Originally the Derby was always the main goal, but if we felt his stamina was lacking over the 2400 metres then the Queensland Guineas would be a suitable option, albeit worth $200,000 less in prize money."
