Bela-Bela Wins Gr1 Woolavington 2000 Stakes

Monday, 30th May 2016

At Greyville in South Africa, talented 3YO filly Bela-Bela (Dynasty-Mystic Spring, by Royal Academy) broke through for a win at the highest level when scoring by 1.75-lengths for trainer Justin Snaith in the R1 million Gr1 Woolavington 2000 Stakes (2000m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow 3YO fillies Negroamaro (Fort Wood-Touch of Tuscan, by Al Mufti) & Nightingale (Silvano-Quickwood, by Fort Wood). Bela-Bela improved her record to 4 wins (including the Gr2 Daisy Fillies Guineas) and 1 placing (the Gr1 Paddock Stakes) from 6 starts. In a post-race interview, champion jockey Anthony Delpech paid Bela-Bela a huge compliment when he labelled her the second best filly he has ever ridden next to champion filly and former South African Horse of the Year Igugu. The Australian-bred Igugu (Galileo) won 10 of her 18 starts including the Gr1 South African Fillies Classic, Gr1 Woolavington Stakes, and South Africa's two most prestigious races, the Gr1 Durban July & Gr1 J&B Met.
