French Derby Next For Blue Blood Zarak

Friday, 27th May 2016

Zarak (see below), the first foal of champion race mare Zarkava, is likely to miss next month's Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, reports Sky Sports. The regally bred Dubawi colt, who surrendered his unbeaten record when fifth behind the highly regarded The Gurkha in the French 2000 Guineas last start, will instead run in the French Derby at Chantilly on 5 June. "Zarak is fine," said Georges Rimaud, racing manager for his owner, the Aga Khan. "He ran a good race at Deauville but he possibly did not have enough experience for a race like that." He added: "The objective now is the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby), but things can change. If he runs in the Jockey Club, we can assume that he won't be going there (Royal Ascot)."
