Intikhab Dies Aged 22

Tuesday, 24th May 2016

Derrinstown Stud has announced the death of its stalwart Intikhab at the age of 22 due to a cardiac condition. His passing comes only a matter of months after his retirement from stud duties. Intikhab (Red Ransom-Crafty Example, by Crafty Prospector) will be best remembered for defeating a high class field in the 1998 Gr2 Queen Anne Stakes (since elevated to Gr1 status) at Royal Ascot, stretching right away in the closing stages for an emphatic 8-length win. It was a stunning performance which earned him a Timeform rating of 135 and the title of World Champion Miler. Renowned as a tough competitor on the racecourse, the son of Red Ransom passed this quality on to many of his progeny, which were headed by the World Champion Filly Snow Fairy and dual Gr1 winner Red Evie, the latter making her own mark at stud as the dam of dual Gr1 winner Found. Intikhab is also the broodmare sire of triple Gr1-winning sprinter Gordon Lord Byron and Australian-bred South African Horse of the Year Igugu.
