Runway Star Wins Gr3 Proud Miss Stakes
At Morphettville racecourse in Adelaide, Widden Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning sire Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago-Explosive, by Fappiano) added a Group success when 5YO mare Runway Star (Northern Meteor-Intuit, by Commands) scored by 0.3-length for trainer Phillip Stokes in the Gr3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+ f&m, over 6YO mare Private Secretary (Husson-Secretaire, by Danehill) & 4YO mare A Lotta Love (Al Maher-Sadlers Brigg, by Montjeu). Runway Star, who was a $300,000 purchase by Belmont Bloodstock at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, improved her record to 6 wins (including the Listed Matrice Stakes - twice) and 3 placings (including the Gr3 SAJC RN Irwin Stakes) from 18 starts for $382,030 earnings. Owned by a syndicate that includes Vinery Stud and Werrett Bloodstock, Runway Star's second dam is the brilliant Gr1-winning sprinter Wrap Around (Bletchingly) - herself a half-sister to multiple Group winner and Gr1 Blue Diamond & Gr1 Thousand Guineas runner-up Rose Of Danehill (Danehill) - from dual Gr3 winner Beach Gown.
