Sepoy Filly Eyes Ascot After Debut Win
Former champion juvenile Sepoy sired his first northern hemisphere winner on Friday when 2YO filly Kilmah (Sepoy - Perfect Star, by Act One) landed a 2YO Novice Fillies' Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newmarket. Ridden by Richard Kingscote for trainer Mark Johnston, Kilmah asserted her superiority over the final 70 metres to score by 2 lengths and, in the process, maybe earned herself a trip to Royal Ascot next month. "She is a good looking filly and had been working well at home," Charlie Johnston, assistant to his father, told Sky Sports. "She had been working with another filly that had won at Ripon on Friday, so we knew she was straight enough to do herself justice. She is a powerful beast." He added: "She has definitely thrown her hat into the ring for Royal Ascot. If you win a Newmarket maiden at this time of year it is obviously on the horizon."
