Stronach Planning To Run World's Richest Thoroughbred Race
The US-based Stronach Group announced on Wednesday that the inaugural running of the US$12 million Pegasus World Cup will be held at Gulfstream Park on 28 January, reports Blood Horse. The restricted race, which is the brainchild of Frank Stronach, founder and honorary chairman of The Stronach Group, was purportedly created to attract the world's best racehorses. Its US$12 million purse will make it the world's richest thoroughbred race. "The Pegasus World Cup will be conducted to the highest standards," Stronach said, "and will be held on Saturday, January 28th, thereby avoiding a conflict with either the Breeders' Cup or the Dubai World Cup." The race, which will be run on dirt over 9 furlongs (1800m), will be restricted to 12 horses, whose connections will be required to pay a $1 million entry fee.
