Berry Booked For Prized Maurice Ride
Tommy Berry has been booked to ride one of the world's best racehorses, Maurice, if the champion Japanese galloper attempts to defend his title in the Gr1 Yasuda Kinen on 5 June, reports Racing.com. The reigning Japanese Horse of the Year confirmed himself a horse of the highest class when resuming with a breathtakingly arrogant 2-length win in the Gr1 Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin on 1 May (see below). The 5YO was simply awesome in recording his seventh straight victory and his fourth at Gr1 level. He also became just the third horse to win the Hong Kong Mile-Champions Mile double - joining Good Ba Ba (2007-08) and Able Friend (2014-15). "I've ridden some pretty special horses in my short career and this bloke looks as though he will be right up there, I'm pretty excited to be honest," Berry said. "It is something that has been in the pipeline for some time and hopefully he will line up in the race." Berry added: "The Yasuda Kinen meeting is my last in Japan before I come back to Australia so hopefully we can go out on a bang."
