Malaguerra On Stradbroke Path

Tuesday, 10th May 2016

Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman will wait and see how Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) performs in Saturday's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane before deciding on a Stradbroke Handicap start for the talented sprinter, reports horseracing.com.au. "I'll run Malaguerra but I'll make my mind up about the Stradbroke after that," Freedman said. Freedman last trained a Stradbroke Handicap winner in 1996 when Danasinga defeated Encores and Monopolize. "Danasinga was 16-1 when he won the Stradbroke and the party was good, I can't really remember much about it," Freedman said. "It would certainly be good to win another Stradbroke.'' He added: "I always thought Malaguerra was a good horse and his win in Melbourne Cup week last year confirmed that to me. It was then that I started thinking about him as a Stradbroke horse." Malaguerra, a winner of the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap in Melbourne and the Gr3 Star Kingdom Stakes in Sydney during the autumn, was last seen finishing a disappointing sixth behind English in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes on 16 April.
