Fastnet Rock Juvenile Eyes Royal Ascot

Tuesday, 10th May 2016

Meanwhile, 2YO Fastnet Rock colt Lundy may have earned himself a trip to Royal Ascot after winning his maiden in impressive fashion at Leopardstown on Sunday. Trained by Aidan O'Brien for owner and renowned bloodstock agent Demi O'Byrne, Lundy was strong to the line in scoring a dominant 3-length win in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden over 1200 metres. Lundy holds several big race entries including the Gr1 Phoenix Stakes, but assistant trainer Joseph O'Brien revealed the Gr2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June was the most likely option. "He's always worked well and showed plenty of pace. As he stepped up his work he got better," O'Brien told Sky Sports. "The Coventry, Windsor Castle and Norfolk Stakes are options and if you put a gun to my head now I would probably say the Coventry. Today was six furlongs and that is probably his trip as there is plenty of pace in him." He added: "He could go for the Marble Hill or a Listed race at Naas, we would look at in between as that is the natural progression as there are no other real races for him." From the stakes-winning Elusive Quality mare Princess Janie, Lundy hails from the same female family as dual Gr1-winning sprinter Ad Valorem.
