Beholder Brilliant On 2016 Debut

Tuesday, 10th May 2016

Making her 6YO debut, champion US mare Beholder (Henny Hughes-Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek) picked up where she left off last year when cruising to an easy win in the $100,000 Gr3 Adoration Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Santa Anita Park on Sunday, reports Blood Horse. Carrying the familiar orange and purple silks of B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm, Beholder scored by 2.5-lengths over Sheer Pleasure and All Star Bub to register her seventh straight victory. Her remarkable record now reads 16 wins from 21 starts for $4,496,600 in earnings. "It was just nice to see her relax out there," trainer Richard Mandella said. "She was a little tense when we saddled her, because she has been away for a while, but once she got the tack on and out there, she was fine." Mandella indicated that Beholder would bid for her 10th Gr1 victory in the Vanity Stakes at Santa Anita on June 4, with the Breeders' Cup Classic her primary end-of-year target.
