Cathryn Sophia Wins Gr1 Kentucky Oaks
At Churchill Downs in the US, multiple US Gr1-winning sprinter & Darley shuttler Street Boss (Street Cry-Blushing Ogygian, by Ogygian) celebrated an elite success when 3YO filly Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss-Sheave, by Mineshaft) scored by 2.75-lengths for trainer John Servis in the US$1 million Gr1 Kentucky Oaks (9 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Land Over Sea (Bellamy Road-Belle Watling, by Pulpit) & Lewis Bay (Bernardini-Summer Raven, by Summer Squall). This was the maiden top-flight victory for Cathryn Sophia who advanced her record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Davona Dale Stakes) and 1 placing (the Gr1 Ashland Stakes) from 6 starts for US$949,720 earnings. "She was maturing, and she had learned to settle," Servis told Blood Horse. "With Songbird out of the race, and the way Cathryn Sophia was coming into the race, we were feeling pretty good. This (victory) opened up a whole new book for us with her getting the mile and an eighth." Cathryn Sophia is likely to have her next run in the Gr1 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park on 11 June.
