Xtravagant Set For Melbourne Spring Return

Wednesday, 4th May 2016

Star New Zealand colt Xtravagant (Pentire-Axiom, by Zabeel) will be a notable absentee from the Queensland winter racing carnival, reports NZ Racing Desk. The dual Gr1-winning 3YO has been sent to the paddock after landing last Saturday's Gr3 Cambridge Breeders' Stakes with a view to returning to Australia in the spring. Xtravagant's last, and only, trip across the Tasman resulted in a disappointing eighth placing (beaten 4.6-lengths) in the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March. "He deserves a good spell and I have a super paddock reserved for him right next door to our other Group One winner this season, the unbeaten Heroic Valour," Te Akau principal David Ellis said. Xtravagant boasts a good horse's record of 6 wins from 10 starts, highlighted by his two stunning 8-length victories in the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas and Gr1 Waikato Sprint.
