Scone Cup Target For Goldstream
High class European import Goldstream (Martino Alonso-Imco Imagination, by Darshaan) is expected to have his second Australian start in the $200,000 Listed Scone Cup (1600m) on Friday week. A 1000m Wyong barrier trial win on Monday has influenced trainer Kris Lees to continue with Goldstream's current preparation. Goldstream tackled weight-for-age company at his Australian debut in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) last month, but over-raced before fading to finish last of the eight runners behind English in the $600,000 feature. "He did everything right in the trial. I'm very pleased with him," Lees said. "We'll run him in the Scone Cup and his performance will then determine immediate plans beyond that." A winner of 5 of his 8 starts to date, Goldstream was purchased by Newcastle-based Australian Bloodstock after winning the Italian Derby in May of last year. The son of Martino Alonso then ventured to the US where he finished 4th to Highland Reel in the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes, before another top effort saw him finish fifth to Prince Of Gibraltar in the Gr1 Grosser Preis von Baden in Germany in September.
