California Chrome Back Home

Tuesday, 3rd May 2016

Meanwhile, 2014 Kentucky Derby & Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome (Lucky Pulpit-Love the Chase, by Not for Love) arrived back at trainer Art Sherman's Los Alamitos headquarters on Sunday after enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation at Taylor Made Farm near Kentucky, reports Blood Horse. "He looks great,'' said Sherman. "It feels so good to have him back.'' The 2014 US Horse of the Year is undefeated in all three starts this year after powering to a 3.75-length win in the US$10 million Gr1 Dubai World Cup at Meydan racecourse on 26 March. The victory was also an historic one for the 5YO who became the richest North American racehorse of all time with earnings of US$12,532,650, eclipsing 2008 Dubai World Cup winner Curlin's haul of US$10,501,800. Sherman confirmed that California Chrome's next target is the Gr2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar on 23 July which will serve as a preparatory race for the US$1 million Gr1 Pacific Classic at the same track on 20 August. California Chrome's primary end-of-year targets are the Breeders' Cup Classic and the inaugural running of the US$12 million Pegasus World Championship in January, should that race materialise as envisioned by Frank Stronach.
