Xtravagant Wins Gr3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes

Monday, 2nd May 2016

At Te Rapa in New Zealand, Rich Hill Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Pentire (Be My Guest-Gull Nook, by Mill Reef) added a Group success when star 3YO New Zealand-bred colt Xtravagant (Pentire-Axiom, by Zabeel) scored by 2.75-lengths for trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs, over 3YO fillies First Serve (Swiss Ace-Fuar, by Kaapstad) & Volks Lightning (Volksraad-Next Century, by Stravinsky). Having his first run since a disappointing performance in the Australian Guineas on 5 March, Xtravagant took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas & Gr1 Waikato Sprint) and 1 placing from 10 starts for NZ$458,598 earnings. "He's done the job and we'll discuss during the week what we do with him now," co-trainer Stephen Autridge told NZ Racing Desk. "I'd say he will have a little break." From the unraced Zabeel mare Axiom, Xtravagant is a sibling to multiple Gr1 performer and NZ 2,000 Guineas runner-up He's Remarkable and was purchased by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis for NZ$375,000 from the draft of Rich Hill Stud at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale.
