Catkins Track Career On The Line

Friday, 26th February 2016

Exceptionally talented 6YO mare Catkins (Dubawi-Salix Caprea, by Catbird) has been granted a short reprieve before a looming decision to retire the Chris Waller-trained mare becomes etched in stone. Normally a model of consistency, Catkins (see her Sheraco Stakes win below) put in one of the worst runs of her career when finishing last of six runners in last Saturday's Gtr3 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) in Sydney. According to horseracing.com.au, Chris Waller will give the mare another chance to prove that she should remain in work for the Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 12. A final decision will not be made until Catkins trials on Monday at Rosehill Gardens where, Waller noted, "She needs to have flashing lights [to continue racing]."
