Pornichet Retired

Monday, 22nd February 2016

Meanwhile, champion trainer Gai Waterhouse has paid tribute to her French-bred Gr1 Doomben Cup winner Pornichet (Vespone-Porza, by Septieme Ciel) who was this week retired after suffering a tendon injury. "Rob [Waterhouse] identified Pornichet as the perfect horse for Australia after some tremendously promising runs in France, and so it proved. He is an absolutely gorgeous horse who mixed it with the best around during his time in Australia and the electric turn of speed he showed when winning his Gr1 was simply breathtaking." A winner as a two-year-old in his native France, where he was also classic placed in the French 2000 Guineas, Pornichet retires with earnings in excess of $1 million for owners Mt Hallowell Stud, Segenhoe Thoroughbreds Australia, Nick Vass Bloodstock, Mrs A Vass, Henderson Racing & Breeding and Mr B Pang. Stud plans are yet to be decided.
