Nyquist Remains Unbeaten

Wednesday, 17th February 2016

Last season's Eclipse Award-winning champion 2YO male Nyquist (Uncle Mo-Seeking Gabrielle, by Forestry) continued on his winning way when scoring a comfortable victory in the Gr2 San Vicente Stakes (7 furlongs) at Santa Anita Park on Monday, reports Blood Horse. Trained by Doug O'Neill, the colt proved too classy in his first outing of the year when scoring by 1.5-lengths over Exaggerator and Denman's Call in the US$200,000 3YO feature. In extending his unbeaten record to 6 wins from 6 starts - including Gr1 victories in the Del Mar Futurity, Frontrunner Stakes, and Breeders' Cup Juvenile - Nyquist set sizzling half mile fractions of :22.50 and :44.49 leaving no doubt about his enormous talent. "Goodness gracious," runner-up Exaggerator's trainer Keith Desormeaux said. "Anybody not a believer in Nyquist now - that was an awesome race. To set those kinds of fractions and still finish in close to track record time for a 3-year-old in February? Wow. Hat's off to Nyquist."
