Risque Wins Gr3 Kevin Hayes Stakes

Monday, 15th February 2016

At Caulfield in Melbourne, The Oaks Stud's 5-time Gr1-winning & 5-time Gr1-placed stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill-Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) added a Group success when 3YO New Zealand-bred filly Risque (Darci Brahma-So Explicit, by Straight Strike) scored by 0.4-length for trainers David Hayes & Tom Dabernig in the $150,000 Gr3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Mossin' Around (Mossman-Rhythmic Affair, by Octagonal) & Cana (Fastnet Rock-Scattered, by Tale of the Cat). This was a brilliant Australian debut by Risque who was sold by The Oaks Stud's Dick Karreman to Mark Pilkington Bloodstock on behalf of Seymour Bloodstock & Werrett Bloodstock after her victory in the New Zealand 1000 Guineas in November. Risque took her record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 NZ 1000 Guineas) and 2 placings from 7 starts for $307,756 earnings. Risque is now likely to head to the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March. "I really think she is (special), she's been running exceptional times at Lindsay Park," co-trainer David Hayes told Racing.com. "We'll see how she pulls up, she's got such a big stride, she'd love Flemington and she's a proven miler."
