Vanbrugh Likely To Miss Autumn Stakes

Friday, 12th February 2016

Last season's Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Vanbrugh (Encosta de Lago-Soho Secret, by Lucky Owners) is likely to miss tomorrow's Gr2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, reports horseracing.com.au. Trainer Chris Waller is contemplating waiting another week and running the 3YO in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on 20 February. "I would like to keep him in Sydney. I think he is going well," Waller said. "The Rosehill Guineas is his race. I don't know what to do." Waller was pleased with Vanbrugh's work on Tuesday morning but said the Encosta de Lago colt had a good blow afterwards. "He had a bit of a blow after he galloped on Tuesday. He worked super, but had a bit of a blow," Waller said. "Do I give him an extra week and run him in the Hobartville? Probably." Vanbrugh has won 4 of his 9 starts hitherto for over $500,000 in prize money.
