Wyong Trial For Lucia Valentina

Thursday, 11th February 2016

Dual Gr1-winning mare Lucia Valentina (Savabeel-Staryn Glenn, by Montjeu) will trial at Wyong next week as she steps up her preparations for an autumn campaign aimed at the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on day two of The Championships (9 April). The trial will be the 5YOs first official gallop since her excellent fifth placing behind Japanese galloper A Shin Hikari in the Gr1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) at the International Races at Sha Tin on 13 December. "She has been back in the stables for a few weeks now, and is coming along nicely," trainer Kris Lees said. "Obviously, she has residual fitness on her side, having had only a short break since coming home from Hong Kong." Lees said Lucia Valentina would resume on the 19 March in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill which would be her only run leading into the Queen Elizabeth. However, he said she also holds a precautionary nomination for the Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on 2 April. "After next week's Wyong trial I will probably look to give her an exhibition gallop leading into the George Ryder," Lees said.
