Top Kiwi Filly Set For Australian Debut

Thursday, 11th February 2016

New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Risque (Darci Brahma-So Explicit, by Straight Strike) is set to make her Australian debut for new trainers David Hayes and Tom Dabernig in the Gr3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. Risque won three of her six starts for Matamata trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards before being sold by The Oaks Stud's Dick Karreman to Mark Pilkington Bloodstock on behalf of Darren Thomas's Seymour Bloodstock in November. Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Risque's early season target is the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March. "You are always unsure how the kiwi form translates but she's got quite a good record and watching her replays she goes on wet and dry ground and looks pretty versatile," Dabernig said. "We'll aim towards the Guineas but I think whatever she does in the autumn she will improve on."
