Terravista Pleases Pride

Wednesday, 10th February 2016

Trainer Joe Pride says top-class sprinter Terravista is exactly where he wants him to be ahead of his return in the Gr1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on 20 February. The 6YO hasn't raced since finishing third behind Delectation when attempting to defend his title in the Gr1 Darley Classic in November, but looked very sharp indeed when defeating Exosphere in an 800m trial at Warwick Farm on Monday. "He's a bit of a difficult horse to get a line on because he tends to be lazy in his trackwork but Hugh [jockey Hugh Bowman] was pleased with him," Pride told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "I was quite pleased with the speed he showed early and then he finished off nicely." He added: "He's definitely on a par with where he was last campaign. That's where he needs to be, but he should be competitive in whatever race he competes in." Following the Lightning, Terravista will be pointed at the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on 12 March and the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 2 April. "After the Lightning he will travel home to Sydney and then return to Melbourne for the Newmarket before returning home again for the TJ," Pride confirmed.
