Flavigny Wins Listed Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes
At Tauherenikau in New Zealand, 4-time Gr1-winning Windsor Park Stud shuttler & former European Champion 2YO Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer-Starlight Dreams, by Black Tie Affair) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Flavigny (Mastercraftsman-Sharp Point, by Point Given) scored by 1.75-lengths for trainers Michael Moroney & Chad Ormsby in the NZ$50,000 Listed Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+ f&m, over 6YO mare Rohaise (Towkay-Volaisha, by Volksraad) & 5YO mare Mae West (Sir Percy-Wee Tipple, by Centaine). This was the first stakes victory for Flavigny who took her record to 4 wins and 3 placings from 17 starts for $72,720 earnings. "She's been working out of her skin and she's always showed a lot of ability, but she's had two wind operations," Ballymore Stables' racing manager Nick Fairweather told NZ Racing Desk. "She has been relaxing a lot better and she has matured both physically and mentally." Raced by her co-breeders Windsor Park Stud, Flavigny had finished fourth last time out in the Gr3 Anniversary Handicap at Trentham where she did well to finish as close as she did after racing three wide without cover. "Our main job was to get black type with her so it's a great result for the Schick family," Fairweather said.
