Hasselhoof Sydney Bound

Tuesday, 2nd February 2016

Boom Kiwi galloper Hasselhoof will fly out to Sydney tomorrow ahead of his eagerly anticipated Australian debut at Randwick this weekend, reports theinformant.co.nz. The exciting Tavistock gelding, who is unbeaten in six starts including a last-start win in the Gr2 Rich Hill Mile at Ellerslie, will run in the Gardenia Handicap over a mile at Randwick on Saturday as a lead-up to the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) at Rosehill on 20 February. "He's absolutely thriving and he's ready to try his luck in Australia," said trainer Donna Logan, who prepares the 4YO in partnership with Chris Gibbs. "It's exciting but it's also a nervous time knowing that the spotlight will be on him, but it's time to take that step." By Cambridge Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Tavistock (Montjeu) - arguably the most exciting stallion either side of the Tasman - Hasselhoof is out of the Zabeel mare Alpine and hails from the female family of New Zealand Oaks winner and champion mare Star Belle. Consigned by Pencarrow Stud, Hasselhoof's half brother by Rip Van Winkle sold for NZ$130,000 to BBA Ireland and Lindsay Park Racing at the recently completed NZB Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.
