Our Voodoo Prince Wins Pakenham Cup

Monday, 30th November 2015

Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir continued his remarkable season when claiming yesterday's $100,000 Pakenham Cup (2000m) with beautifully bred gelding Our Voodoo Prince. Ridden by Damien Oliver, Our Voodoo Prince arrived with a well timed run to score by a neck over Duplicity Jones (No Excuse Needed) and Second Bullet (Encosta de Lago) to take his overall record to 9 wins (including the Gr3 MRC Easter Cup) and 12 placings from 42 starts for $464,754 earnings. "He's flying - it's good to team up with him," Oliver said of Weir. "I don't ride for him much these days but it's always nice to get on one of Weiry's - you know they're in with a chance." He added: "He's got good acceleration this horse when he's on and Weiry's got him going great guns." Our Voodoo Prince is an 8YO Kingmambo half-brother to Coolmore's dual Derby winner Australia (Galileo) from the champion European racemare Ouija Board (Cape Cross), a winner of seven Gr1 races including the English & Irish Oaks double and two editions of the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf Stakes.
