Al Kazeem To Stand For £12,000

Friday, 20th November 2015

Four-time Gr1 winner Al Kazeem (Dubawi-Kazeem, by Darshaan) will resume stallion duties next year at owner-breeder John Deer's Oakgrove Stud in England at a fee of £12,000. Originally retired to The Queen's Royal Studs at Sandringham in 2013, Al Kazeem was deemed sub-fertile after only getting 25 mares in foal and was put back in to work with trainer Roger Charlton. Remarkably the 7YO was able to recapture top form, highlighted by the successful defence of his Gr1 Tattersalls Gold Cup crown on his final racetrack appearance in May this year. He retired with 10 wins from 23 starts for over £1.5 million prize money. "Al Kazeem has been enjoying himself out in the field and has settled in back home really well - we can't wait to crack on with him again," Oakgrove Stud manager Tim Lane told racing Post. "We'll manage his career in a similar way to [the also subfertile] Cacique at Banstead Manor Stud. We'll have the mares here for a while before they're due to be covered and cross-cover them if need be." Recently published breeding Return of Mare statistics show that as a result of the 25 mares he covered in 2013, Al Kazeem has 19 foals on the ground - ten colts and nine fillies.
