Heathcote Bullish About Buff

Wednesday, 18th November 2015

Trainer Robert Heathcote says that veteran Queensland sprinter Buffering (Mossman-Action Annie, by Anabaa) has arrived in Perth fit and well ahead of Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot, reports Racing.com. "That's probably one of the benefits of a horse like Buffering, he's such an experienced and seasoned traveller. He takes it all in his stride," Heathcote told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "I think that's the secret to success with the horse so often, and it could be the case once again." Buffering, who won West Australia's premier sprint in 2013, is currently the $3.80 TAB favourite for the race after his typically courageous last-start fourth behind Delectation in the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington. Although acknowledging that the hometown team including Magnifisio, Watermans Bay and Lucky Street, along with Victorian speedster Fast 'N' Rocking, are sure to provide stern opposition, Heathcote is confident that Buffering's class can shine through. "The locals you have to give them a lot of respect on their home turf, but if Buffering travels well [in running], I think strictly on his Darley form, he's going to be hard to beat," said Heathcote.
