Il Cavallo ready For Riccarton

Thursday, 5th November 2015

Il Cavallo (Choisir-Gold Chant, by El Moxie) was flown to Christchurch last night ahead of his New Zealand debut on the opening day of the New Zealand Cup carnival, reports NZ Racing Desk. The well-bred stallion prospect will be ridden by Michael Coleman in Saturday's Listed Pegasus Stakes at Riccarton for trainers and Chequers Stud principals Mark Fraser-Campin and Chris Campin. "He hasn't missed a beat since he won a trial, he's got an amazing attitude," Fraser-Campin said. "He looks terrific and he is well-placed in the race." The 5YO prepared for his first-up run when scoring an easy barrier trial win at Te Aroha last week. The son of Choisir, who is a three-quarter brother to dual hemisphere Gr1 winning sprinter and exciting young sire Starspangledbanner, was purchased from Australia to stand at Chequers Stud from 2016. Il Cavallo, whose main aim is likely to be the Gr1 Railway Stakes on New Year's Day, won five races for Caulfield trainer Peter Moody and was twice placed in stakes company.
