Cup Day Success For Riverdene Stud
The Gr3 victory of Nicconi 2YO filly Concealer to open another memorable Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington on Tuesday was as much a success for Riverdene Stud at Wagga Wagga as it was for her Hunter Valley-based sire. An inspired $35,000 purchase made by trainer Tony McEvoy at this year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (Summer Book), Concealer was bred and sold by Dr Kevin Pendergast, the long-term proprietor of Riverdene Stud. The debut success of Concealer in the VRC Emirates Airline Plate could hardly have been better received by Pendergast, who also retained an interest in the black-type winning filly. Even better still, Pendergast has confirmed that Riverdene will be offering Concealer's full-brother at next year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale (Summer Book). Concealer's dam, Beauty Kit (by Tale of the Cat), is an unraced half-sister to the stakes-placed four-time winners Freeroller and Limani. Also featuring on the catalogue page in the same remove is the Gr2 WATC Karrakatta Plate winner Motion Pictures. This is the extended family of the Gr1 STC Orlando Wines Classic winner Strawberry Fair. Concealer is the first runner bred by Pendergast from Beauty Kit after acquiring the mare at the Scone Broodmare Sale in 2012. Since foaling Concealer's younger full-brother, the 11-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat (USA) has missed to a covering by Shamus Award in 2014 and is currently in foal to former Riverdene Stud resident sire Zariz.
