Gallop To Determine Kuro First-Up Mission

Tuesday, 1st September 2015

Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman will gallop talented sprinter Kuro (Denman-Distinctive Lass, by Orientate) at Moonee Valley this morning before deciding whether to run the 4YO in the Gr2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) on Saturday, reports Racing.com. Should he line up on the weekend, it will be Kuro's first start for the Lee & Anthony Freedman yard after transferring from Joe Pride's Sydney stable in July. The 4YO was last seen finishing a close-up third behind Ball Of Muscle in the Gr2 QTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben in June. "He's coming along really well. He jumped out here at Flemington on Friday and I was very pleased with how he went," Freedman said. "Depending on how he works on Tuesday morning will determine whether we run him in the McEwen or not." He added: "He's a pretty gross sort of horse and he needed the trial on Friday and he'll need the work on Tuesday." Kuro is a winner of 6 of his 13 starts, highlighted by stakes victories in the Listed ATC Heritage Stakes & Brian Crowley Stakes, as well as Gr1 placings in the VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes behind Brazen Beau and the ATC Galaxy behind Sweet Idea. Gr1 winners Chautauqua, Flamberge and Lucky Hussler have also been nominated for the McEwen.
