O'Brien: Puccini Toughest To Beat
Danny O'Brien believes New Zealand colt Puccini (Encosta de Lago-Miss Opera, by Paris Opera) is the biggest threat to Shamus Award in Saturday's Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m), reports NZ Racing Desk. The Melbourne trainer said that while Shamus Award hadn't missed a beat since his last-start sixth in the Gr1 Australian Cup, he had the utmost respect for the Kiwi visitor. "I think the horse that looks the most promising is Puccini from New Zealand," O'Brien said. "He's been very dominant over there and the best New Zealand three-year-old is usually a pretty good horse." Puccini is coming off an impressive last-start win in the Gr1 New Zealand Derby which boosted his record to 5 wins from 14 starts for $676,925 earnings.
