Guelph Retirement Looms

Monday, 24th March 2014

Darley Australia will recommend to owner Sheikh Mohammed that star filly Guelph be retired, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Henry Plumptre, managing director of Darley Australia, said the recommendation would be made after consulting trainer Peter Snowden. Plumptre said he spoke to the Sheikh's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson about Guelph following her disappointing third in Saturday's Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill. "Our feeling here is that she should be retired," Plumptre said. "We will certainly stop her campaign now. For whatever reason – there doesn't appear to be anything clinically wrong with her, maybe it's her two-year-old career catching up with her – she isn't the same filly." He added, "She isn't letting go at the end of her races. She is well and really after four Group 1s she has nothing left to prove."
