White Sage Career Over

Friday, 21st March 2014

The racing career of smart mare White Sage (Reset-Pay My Bail, by Justice Prevails) is over after she broke her leg during trackwork yesterday morning, reports racingnetwork.com.au. "She wasn't even out for a gallop, less than that, she just put her foot in a hole," a devastated O'Shea explained to Racing Network. "She has a fracture in the condular bone, which is the bottom bone of the joint," he added. White Sage was engaged to run in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow, but instead will be given time to recuperate before embarking on a broodmare career. Much was expected of White Sage this time in after winning her first five starts last campaign, culminating with a black-type success in the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill. However, her two autumn starts saw her perform below expectations managing only a third and a seventh in the Gr2 Breeders' Classic and Gr3 Liverpool City Cup respectively. O'Shea said White Sage's racing career was definitely over, but felt she had all the makings of becoming an outstanding broodmare.
