Ranvet Shaping As Epic Encounter

Tuesday, 18th March 2014

Fiorente and It's A Dundeel are among the nominations for Saturday's $500,000 Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill, setting up a potential clash between arguably Australia's two best horses, reports horseracing.com.au. In any event, the Ranvet promises to be one of the early highlights of the Sydney autumn carnival with a host of top-class gallopers providing an A-List support cast. Among the 13 nominees are Gr1 winners Hawkspur, Silent Achiever, Foreteller and Gondokoro, along with group winners Sertorius, Moriarty, Ibicenco, and The Queen's horse Carlton House. It would seem that Fiorente's participation, at least, is assured, with the Melbourne Cup winner's trainer Gai Waterhouse saying, "We have a few things to consider but if we nominate, he will run." While the Irish-bred Fiorente is racing in career best form with two wins from two starts this campaign, It's A Dundeel will be out to land his first blow of the autumn after resuming with a brave second behind Boban in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes.
