Sprint Future For Smart Kiwi Colt
Connections of highly regarded New Zealand colt Lifeline Express (Zabeel-Danehill Princess, by Danehill) have abandoned plans of winning a feature staying race with the 3YO and instead will train him as a sprinter, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He's been back for 10 days and we're going to train him as a sprinter - he's not built like a stayer and he doesn't have the action of a stayer," said co-trainer Paul Shailer. "It doesn't matter if he wins a Group One race over 1200 metres or a Group One over 2400 so we'll let him be what he wants to be. He's come back really well and matured and come up in the wither." Lifeline Express was an impressive debut winner at Matamata before Christmas but was sent for a brief spell after he finished a disappointing sixth at Awapuni in January.
