Rising Filly Eyeing Off Sydney Classics
New Zealand trainer Donna Logan is facing a dilemma over which Australian classic to target with smart filly Rising Romance (Ekraar-Post Romance, by Postponed), reports NZ Racing Desk. "The Oaks looks the obvious way to go, but I certainly haven't ruled out the Derby," commented Logan. Both blue riband features will be run at Royal Randwick during The Championships with the $2 million Gr1 Australian Derby on 12 April and the $1 million Gr1 Australian Oaks a week later. "If we go to the Oaks then she will run in the Vinery and if it's the Derby then we'll look at the Rosehill Guineas," Logan said. "There's a serious decision to be made." The 3YO daughter of Ekraar finished runner-up to brilliant colt Puccini in the Gr1 New Zealand Derby last-start at Ellerslie and while her immediate future is undecided, Logan is not frightened of a rematch. "I'm not scared of him and I'd like to meet him on more even terms and not give him such a head start," she said. "If he's the stand out colt then we're certainly not out of our depth." Logan says Rising Romance has progressed well since Ellerslie and is fit and well ahead of her Sydney campaign. "She pulled up better than I could have ever imagined and she looks a million dollars. She's put on eight kilos and is jumping out of her skin."
